If your idea of a good afternoon is rummaging through rails of colourful, characterful clothes, Vulgar is the place for you. The independent vintage store is based at The Forum on Devonshire Street, in the heart of Sheffield's independent quarter, surrounded by dozens of shops, cafes, bars and traders.

Vulgar has popped up all over the Devonshire Quarter over the years, starting out at one end of Division Street and making its way down to The Forum. Our Favourite Places praises its careful curation, noting that you only need to rummage for about five seconds before finding something you must immediately own, whether that is a floral two-piece or a wolf T-shirt with sequinned sleeves.

The shop takes its inspiration from past subcultures. It specialises in one-of-a-kind jazzy patterns and prints, statement festival pieces, timeless accessories and early 90s and 00s designer labels such as Burberry, Moschino, Versace, Dolce and Gabbana, Prada and Stone Island. Classic wardrobe staples in leather and denim are always on hand too.

Street style from the 90s and 00s is a big influence, and the rails feature brands including Stüssy, Champion, Evisu, Carhartt, Fubu, Tommy Hilfiger, Levi's and Dickies. Our Favourite Places describes halter neck dresses, velvet maxi dresses, oversized sweatshirts and scrunchies, with pieces from the 60s, 70s and 80s hidden among the rails as well.

One of the most appealing things about Vulgar is its own rework range. Inspired by past trends, these pieces are made from unique vintage and recycled fabrics and materials, giving old textiles a fresh start and shoppers something genuinely one-off.

Vintage is a big part of what makes the Division Street and Devonshire Street area special, and Welcome to Sheffield lists Vulgar among the well-respected vintage stores that give the district its strong offer for sustainable shopping.

Vulgar is at Unit 2, The Forum, 127-129 Devonshire Street, and is open seven days a week. The latest drops are shared on Instagram, and more about the shop can be found on the Vulgar website.
