R1SE grows from a shipping container yoga studio into a Sheffield wellness name

Few Sheffield wellness businesses have grown quite like R1SE. What began in 2017 as a hot yoga studio in KRYNKL, a shipping container community in Sheffield, has become a two-site studio and urban spa with more than 1,000 active members.

The journey has been steady and imaginative. During the pandemic in 2020, R1SE went online, expanding into on-demand courses. In September 2021 it opened Brook Place, then introduced ice baths in 2023 and saunas in 2024. That September it opened its Kelham Urban Spa and closed its original KRYNKL home. In 2025 it launched Reformer Pilates and was named Sheffield Small Business of the Year, and in 2026 it introduced hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Today R1SE runs two purpose-built sites in central Sheffield. Brook Place has two studios and the Fire & Ice Centre, while Kelham, on Shepherd Street, has a studio and the Urban Spa.

The timetable is wide-ranging. Studio sessions include hot yoga in a room heated to 35°C, yoga, Reformer and mat-based Pilates, barre, breathwork and aerial yoga. On the recovery side there is red light and PEMF, compression therapy, hyperbaric oxygen, fire and ice thermal cycling, infrared sauna and ice baths, as well as experiences such as sound baths. R1SE also offers yoga and Pilates teacher training.

Everything is built around a methodology it calls Chaos, Control, Calm. Chaos means pushing to your edge through hot yoga, HIIT and breathwork; Control brings precision through Reformer Pilates and mindful movement; and Calm is about recovery, through infrared sauna, ice bath and red light therapy. As R1SE puts it, "Recovery is where growth happens."

Its mission is summed up in one line: "R1SE exists to help people move better, recover smarter, and live longer." With more than 25 session types and over 4,500 on-demand sessions, there is plenty of choice for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike, and an introductory offer for newcomers.

Welcome to Sheffield notes that the business has earned thousands of five-star reviews, a testament to the community it has built since those first classes in a shipping container.

Class timetables, spa bookings and the latest offers are on the R1SE website.
