Güs brings Scandinavian-style sauna and ice bath culture to Cambridge Street

Sheffield's love of the outdoors has found a new indoor outlet. Güs, an urban wellness space at 34 Cambridge Street, brings Scandinavian-style sauna and cold water bathing to the heart of the city centre.

Güs is the work of co-founders Rob and Chris, longtime friends who left their jobs to launch the business. "We took one look at Sheffield's unique energy and vibrant outdoor community," they told Welcome to Sheffield. "This isn't just about offering a new service; it's about creating a true community space."

The venue occupies the former Sunday School building on Cambridge Street, part of the Heart of the City development, and spans three storeys, with social spaces on every floor and a tea station at the top. The saunas are built to Finnish standards: a bespoke 24-person sauna and a more intimate 12-person sauna on the top floor, with views. There are four ice baths ranging from 3 to 12°C, plus a gentler ice bucket shower.

Guests can choose a free flow session of 45 or 90 minutes, moving at their own pace between sauna, ice bath, showers and rest areas. For something more theatrical, the 75-minute guided session is led by a Sauna Master through three rounds of heat, music, breathwork and aromatherapy, using ice balls and essential oils, each followed by time in the cold plunges or rinse showers. Saunamap lists free flow sessions at £18 for 45 minutes and £30 for 90 minutes, with guided Aufguss-style sessions at £30.

Thoughtful touches run throughout. Every guest gets a lockable locker, towels are included, there are private changing spaces and a vanity station with hairdryers and straighteners, and skincare products come from Bath House in Cumbria.

The Güs Café is open to everyone, not just bathers, serving speciality coffee from Dark Woods Coffee Roasters alongside recovery shakes, electrolyte drinks and locally baked pastries. The team also plans collaborations with local organisations and community events.
