For generations of Sheffielders, the shop on Carver Street was where you went for vintage. Freshmans traded there from 1992, and when it closed, the city could have lost a much-loved landmark. Instead, Good Good Vintage has given it a new lease of life.

The business began with humble roots. Its founders started out in 2016 trading on Depop, scouring markets and charity shops for stock. "We really have started this from nothing," they say. Good Good Vintage itself was started in Sheffield in 2022 by directors Suzy and Jack, who between them had a decade of experience running their own vintage businesses.

At first they ran warehouse open days from a unit near Bramall Lane, where more than 200 shoppers would turn up on a weekend in search of the best garments. The buzz grew quickly, a pop-up followed, and the pair eventually signed the lease on the Carver Street shop and completed a £40,000 fit-out to make it their own.

Every item is hand selected, with a focus on quality, rarity and authenticity. Suzy and Jack travel across Europe to source clothing, and the rails mix Italian designer labels with British and American classics. Shoppers might find Burberry, Carhartt and Patagonia alongside Harley-Davidson, and the online shop can be browsed by decade, from pre-1950s pieces through to Y2K, or by country of origin.

Director Suzy describes sourcing as a little like shopping for everyone: you see something working for a certain person, style or moment, and you pick it up. For her, vintage is a way to adventure and create a style that feels in fashion rather than out of it.

There is more to a visit than the rails, too. As well as continuing the shop's long vintage legacy, Good Good Vintage serves coffee, making it an easy place to linger in the city centre, close to the independent shops of Division Street.

The Carver Street store is open every day, from 11am on weekdays, 10am on Saturdays and 11am on Sundays. Stock drops, events and the online shop can all be found on the Good Good Vintage website.
