CollardManson: the Devonshire Street boutique with a world-travelling handbag

Walk along Devonshire Street and you will find one of Sheffield's most distinctive independent boutiques. CollardManson was founded in September 2002 and has had a shop in Sheffield ever since, building a strong and recognisable identity rooted in uncompromising ideas about fashion and the arts.
Its philosophy is refreshingly simple. "We only stock what we believe in," the team says. "If we don't believe in it we don't buy it." The shop references trends without necessarily following them, and its buyers are drawn to nomadic, spiritual and bohemian pieces.
The boutique is perhaps best known for its own CollardManson bags, which are designed in Yorkshire and made in a family-owned and run factory in east London using fine leathers. Those bags have travelled far beyond South Yorkshire, stocked in boutiques and department stores across Europe and around the world, from Moscow to Kuwait and from Berlin to Adelaide.
Inside the shop, the mix is wonderfully eclectic. Womenswear and menswear sit alongside jewellery, including Vivienne Westwood pieces, and a broad homeware range of cushions, throws, rugs, lighting and candles. Labels on the rails include A.P.C., Norse Projects, Rick Owens and Mes Demoiselles, along with the brand's own Window Dressing The Soul collections.
There is a thoughtful approach to sourcing too. Many products are handmade, some pieces are made in Sheffield and London, and the team always tries to buy from fair trade suppliers. They visit the places where their products are made and have become friends with many of the makers, working with some factories for more than ten years.
CollardManson was also an early adopter of online shopping, selling on the web since the mid-2000s, which means customers far from Sheffield can still share in its distinctive taste.
It is a fitting member of the Division Street and Devonshire Street community, recently ranked second in the UK for independent shopping. You can find CollardManson at 123-125 Devonshire Street, and the full collection is on its website.
