Rotherham has a proud brewing story of its own, and Chantry Brewery is very much part of it. Based on the Gateway Industrial Estate in Parkgate, the independent brewery sums up its approach in three phrases: real people, real taste, real ale.

Chantry's beers are crafted by people with a passion for brewing, using traditional techniques and carefully sourced ingredients to produce premium ales for everyone to enjoy. Its range includes bottles such as Kaldo Pale and Helles, which can be bought by the case from the brewery's online One Hop Shop alongside mini kegs and branded glasses.

The best way to enjoy the beer, though, is in one of the brewery's pubs, each with a story of its own. The newest member of the family is the Chantry Brewery Tap, a bar right in the heart of the brewery with an indoor stage for live music.

In Rotherham town centre, the Cutlers' Arms on Westgate was originally built in 1825 and is full of character, with a cosy fireplace, a fine selection of real ales and cider, and live music on indoor and outdoor stages. A short walk away, the New York Tavern dates from 1856 and holds many memories for locals. It is named after the New York Stadium, home of Rotherham United, and is described by the brewery as an award-winning real ale pub.

Across the border in Sheffield, the Chantry Inn on Handsworth Road is said to have been built in 1250 on consecrated ground. With two fireplaces to sit beside, it is a charming place for a pint, and it has recently been recognised by CAMRA Sheffield & District, which named it the East area winner in its 2026 Pub of the Year awards.

That recognition is a lovely reflection of what Chantry does well: looking after historic pubs and filling them with good beer and a welcoming atmosphere. Opening times vary from pub to pub, with the Chantry Inn open every day from early afternoon.

Events, live music listings, pub details and the brewery shop can all be found on the Chantry Brewery website, and the brewery's social media channels carry the latest news from the tap.
